How Much Does a Small Business Website Cost in Canada?

By

How much does a website cost in Canada? For a small business, it typically costs anything from a DIY builder subscription to several thousand dollars for a custom site built by an agency. Our fixed-price plans at ZimaPeak are $999, $1,899 and $2,999 CAD, delivered in two to five weeks. Online stores and custom web apps cost more. On top of the build, budget for yearly costs like your domain, hosting and any booking software.

This guide breaks down what drives the price, compares DIY, freelancers and agencies, lists the ongoing costs, and shows exactly what each of our plans includes.

Typical price ranges by website type

The type of website matters more to the price than anything else. Here's how we price each type.

Website typeWhat it isOur price
Business (brochure) website5–6 pages: home, about, services, contact, blog. For service businesses that want calls and enquiries$999 (Starter)
Lead-generation websiteA business site with copywriting support, conversion optimization and analytics, built to turn visitors into enquiries$1,899 (Growth)
Funnel or booking websiteCustom design, landing pages, a lead magnet → offer → booking flow, email automation and integrations like Calendly or a CRM$2,999 (Premium)
Ecommerce websiteAn online store with a product catalogue, secure checkout and payment gatewayQuoted per project
Web appCustom workflows, user accounts and integrations with other systemsQuoted per project

If you're not sure which type you need, start from the outcome: calls and form enquiries (business site), booked appointments (booking site), or online sales (ecommerce).

DIY vs freelancer vs agency

OptionUpfront costOngoing costBest whenTrade-offs
DIY website builderLow: your timeA monthly or yearly subscription to the builder, plus apps and add-onsYou're just starting, have time, and need a simple site fastTemplate look. You do the writing, SEO setup and updates. Moving to another platform later can mean rebuilding
FreelancerVaries widely with experienceHosting and any support you agree onA simple site, with a freelancer whose portfolio matches what you needQuality and availability depend on one person. Check who handles fixes after launch
AgencyHigher than DIY. Ours: $999–$2,999 fixedHosting and optional supportYou want the site to bring in leads, connected to your ads, SEO and bookingAsk for a fixed price and a written list of deliverables, so the quote doesn't grow mid-project

A cheap website isn't automatically a bad decision. If your customers find you by word of mouth and only check that you exist, a simple DIY site may be enough. If you plan to run Google or Facebook ads to the site, the site's job is to convert paid clicks, and a few extra enquiries a month usually pays back the difference.

What drives the price of a website

  1. Number of pages. Each service, location and treatment page needs design and copy. A 6-page site and a 30-page site are different projects.
  2. Custom design vs template. A template is faster and cheaper. Custom design (our Premium plan) is built around your brand and your customers' path to booking.
  3. Copywriting. Writing the words is often the slowest part. Our Growth plan includes copywriting support; on Starter, you supply the text.
  4. Features and integrations. Online booking, payments, CRM, email automation and member logins each add setup and testing time.
  5. Ecommerce. Product catalogues, variants, shipping rules and taxes make an online store a bigger project than a service site.
  6. Revisions. Unlimited revisions usually means a higher base price. Our Growth plan includes one revision round; extra rounds and extra pages are quoted per request.

Ongoing costs nobody mentions

The build is a one-time cost. These come every month or year after launch:

How to get an accurate website quote

Vague requests get vague quotes. Before you contact anyone (including us), have answers to these:

  1. What should the site do? Bring calls, take bookings, sell products, or look credible when people check you out.
  2. How many pages? List your services and locations. Each usually needs its own page.
  3. Who writes the content? You, the agency, or both.
  4. Which features? Online booking, payments, a blog, a members' area, integrations with your existing tools.
  5. Examples you like. Two or three sites, and what you like about each.
  6. Deadline and budget. A realistic range helps the provider recommend the right plan instead of over- or under-scoping.

Then ask every provider for: a fixed price, a written list of deliverables, the timeline, how many revisions are included, who owns the site, and what happens after launch.

Already have a site you want to rebuild? Changing URLs during a redesign can cost you your Google rankings, so plan the redirects before launch.

FAQ

How much does a small business website cost in Toronto?

The same as anywhere in Canada: it depends on the type of site, not the city. Our fixed-price plans for Toronto and Canadian businesses are $999, $1,899 and $2,999, with ecommerce and web apps quoted separately.

Why do website quotes vary so much?

Quotes cover different things. One might include copywriting, booking setup and a year of support; another might be a template with your logo. Compare the written list of deliverables, not just the price.

How long does it take to build a website?

Our plans take 2–3 weeks (Starter), 3–4 weeks (Growth) and 4–5 weeks (Premium). The most common delay is waiting for content: text, photos and logins.

Do I need a custom website, or is a template enough?

A template is enough if you need a simple online presence. Custom design pays off when the site has to convert paid traffic, when you have many services, or when you need a booking or sales funnel.

How much does website maintenance cost?

We offer ongoing support, security updates and backups for $50/month.

Is a website worth it for a small business?

For most local businesses, yes. It's where your ads, Google profile and social media send people to call or book. See why every small business needs a website.
